Den of Thieves

I liked parts of this movie but I didn’t like the movie itself.

It’s got an odd structure: heist / shootout at the beginning and a heist/shootout at the end, with a slow-burn middle section that’s dull.

The family stuff–with Nick and with Ray–was unnecessary. It’s clear these guys are both committed to their jobs and don’t have the time, inclination, or ability to foster real connections. I didn’t need to see that to know it.

The “Heat” homages are fine, but they’re not compelling.

That said, if the possible sequel focuses on Donnie, I’ll watch that. He’s the best character, by far, and O’Shea Jackson Jr. has a ton of charisma.
