John Carter

It’s amazing what low expectations can yield.

I’d heard this movie was horrible, but it wasn’t half bad!

What’s interesting is that this was Andrew Stanton’s first full-scale live-action film. Stanton wrote and directed some of Pixar’s best films, including “WALL-E,” which is one of the most original and clever stories ever created. It’s a shame “John Carter” tanked, because Stanton’s imagination could yield special things in the live-action world.

Looking at his IMDb listing, I get the sense Stanton is gearing up for a live-action film return. He directed two episodes of “Stranger Things” in 2017, one episode of “Better Call Saul” in 2018, one episode of “Legion” in 2019, and one episode of “Tales from the Loop” in 2020.

Wormhole opportunity: I wish “John Carter” had come out in the late ’90s and Noah Wyle was cast in the title role. We’d have witnessed the actor-playing-different-characters-with-the-same-name singularity.
