Red Rising (Red Rising book 1)

I’m re-reading Pierce Brown’s Red Rising series.

I read the first three books on a Kindle a number of years back. I enjoyed them, but my recall on the details wasn’t great (something about Mars, a color system, and lots of people with Roman surnames?).

I did remember all the major players and I knew the action scenes were the best I’ve ever read (they still are … Brown is exceptional at writing action). Now that I’m reading the print editions I find that many more story details are embedding in my brain.

One benefit of revisiting a series is seeing how much positioning was in place from the outset. Brown clearly had a lot of the story mapped out because the connectivity between Red Rising and the later books is quite strong.
