The Princess Switch

A very dumb holiday movie.

But … I finally understand the appeal of the thousands of holiday movies pumped out by Hallmark and copycats each year. If all you’re looking for is a holiday vibe–not a story, no real performances to speak of, and very little drama–then these mindless treats are perfect things to have on in the background.

I hesitate to call “The Princess Switch” a movie. It barely has structure and it’s impossible to understand the rules of this world. For example, who is the old man that appears at opportune times? Is he a holiday spectre? A jolly deus ex machina? A chaotic force that lures unsuspecting doppelgängers into needlessly complicated romantic entanglements? He is never explained.
