The Last Question

I think Isaac Asimov said this is his favorite short story (of the ones he wrote). It’s cheeky, which I like. And I’m pretty sure some variation of this is included in one of the “Foundation” books.

But, again, I have a hard time connecting with Asimov’s writing. In the middle part of the 20th century, the “norms” were so entrenched, and so white, and so male, that a worldview beyond those very limited borders was rarely portrayed.

I like to be challenged by sci-fi. I like to have ideas thrown at me that expand sociological concepts–that reset notions of what’s possible. Limiting sci-fi to the technology is a missed opportunity.
