Superman (1978)

I revisited this film to remember what a circa-1978 blockbuster looked like.

By modern standards, it’s an odd and slow story. It takes a full hour for Superman to appear in full and do super stuff. An hour.

Superman’s attraction to Lois makes zero sense. Their flight through the night sky is bizarre. And his solution to her death–spinning the Earth in the opposite direction–is absurd (it’s also unclear what he changed and didn’t change when he did this, but I have to imagine it was an ecological disaster).

And another thing! Jeff East played the young Clark Kent (even though he looked like a 35-year-old district manager) but the producers had Christopher Reeve dub over East’s dialogue. They did East dirty!

Full disclosure: I don’t like Superman and I don’t like Superman movies. I find the character to be dull and one dimensional.
