Clue

I hadn’t realized how sophisticated the IP-to-film process had become until I re-watched 1985’s “Clue.”

Using the “Clue” board game as the foundation for a film isn’t a horrible idea, but the game should have been a jumping off point rather than an essential text. Determining that Miss Scarlet committed murder in the hall with the revolver doesn’t provide enough grist for a narrative. There needs to be motivation … or, at minimum, a plot with some thought behind it.

This film didn’t age well, either. The casual sexual harassment and homophobia are jarring.

Why isn’t this an interactive title? Netflix rolled out an interactive function a few years back that works pretty well. I’m surprised there hasn’t been more effort to turn well-known board games into interactive titles.
