Inside Man

I think I only saw this once before, likely right after it came out in 2006, and I remember liking it quite a lot.

But I didn’t remember much, so rewatching it was fun because I couldn’t recall exactly how the heist went down. It was more clever than I remember (and I remember it being clever).

It’s also well made, which makes sense since Spike Lee directed it. The film just has more than you’d typically get from a popcorn heist film. The acting is a little better (the cast is fantastic). The camera work, the music, and the choices Lee made are all just better.

I consider this Clive Owen’s second best movie, after “Children of Men.”

Another interesting, if not “good,” Clive Owen film: “Anon” is a Netflix movie that came out in 2018. It’s not great, but it’s compelling. I often think about the technology used throughout the film. There are no physical computers because everything is handled by augmented reality devices implanted in characters’ eyes. Office workers sit at bare desks, blinking and flipping through data that’s projected straight into their brains. The world of “Anon” is a less frantic and showy version of “Minority Report.”
