As films about superhero squirrels go, this isn’t half bad.
The plot doesn’t make sense, but that’s okay. The lead (Matilda Lawler) is great. The squirrel effects are solid (I never thought I’d see, let alone enjoy, a rodent’s discovery of new super powers). The whole film is charming and a bit dumb, which is a delightful mix during these exhausting times.
What I enjoyed most were the “hey, that’s …!” moments. Hey, that’s Willow from “Buffy”! And Jean-Ralphio from “Parks and Rec”! And Abed from “Community”! And was that Janeane Garofalo?
An unexpected “Titanic” joke: Watch out for a funny bit about the Rose-on-the-door debate.
